Coach Certification Requirements

Coaches must complete all the certification requirements to be eligible to coach.

Respect In Sport

All coaches and other team officials must complete Respect in Sport every 5 years. Certification must be completed by December 1. RIS is designed as a tool to assist in identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment and bullying in sport.  The on-line course curriculum is broken into six (6), 30 minute modules and includes audio/visual presentations, quizzes and printable handouts.

Coach 2 (HU – Online Coach)    

This course is for coaches and assistant coaches in H1-4, Atom and for all C levels at Peewee, Bantam and Midget. Certification must be completed by December 15. The Coach 2 course is offered as a blended model, with modules offered via E-Learning and, once completed, a face to face clinic. Delegates are qualified after both e-learning and the face to face clinic components are satisfied.

Coach Development 1 

The Development 1 course remains as a clinic based program and takes 16 hours to complete (over two days). This course is required for Peewee and above rep team coaches and assistant coaches. Certification must be completed by December 1.

Concussion Awareness Training Tool Program (CATT)  

Beginning in the 2016-17 season all coaches and team officials must complete the free Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT) course as part of their certification process. The course is free and takes 30 minutes to complete.

Coaches and Team Officials this course is mandatory prior to season start. click here and then click on begin course. Once completed you will receive a confirmation and certificate. 

SCMHA reimburses current season coaches for costs associated with coach certification:

1. Respect in Sport - on completion of course with receipt

2. Coach 2 - on completion of post task assignment with copy of receipt

3. Development 1 - on completion of course with copy of receipt

Criminal Record Checks

Coaches, Assistant Coaches and on ice helpers over the age of 18 are required to complete a Criminal Record Check. Further information can be found under the Safety Tab of this websits.
